THE GREAT STORY OF TALENT
The “Parable of the Talents”, in Matthew 25:14–30 tells of a master who was leaving his house to travel, and, before leaving, entrusted his property to his servants. The property entrusted to the three servants was worth 8 talents, where a talent was a significant amount of money.
- Character 1, 2 & 3: Who were they?
What is the parable of the bags of gold about?
And this weight of money is called a talent, thus the story is also known as the parable of the talents. The parable is about a man who went on a journey and entrusted his wealth to his servants: “To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. “
WHAT ABILITY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT HERE?
A talent (or gift, or aptitude) is the skill that someone has to do something very well that people usually like and that is difficult. It is an ability that someone is born with. Some people become quite good at something even if they do not have much talent, but if they are willing to work very hard at the skill.
We are all different but the point here is “WILLING TO WORK HARD AT THE SKILL” – Have you tried hard enough? Have you taken time to empower yourself with good education? Have you taken time time to learn from someone better then you?
CHARACTER 1 – WHICH I ENJOY TALKING TO; AND LEARN
These are individuals who is willing to listen to you; they like new ideas as they are entrepreneurs and investors. They always looking forward for new ideas so that they can put their money to work. They hate the MAN@WORK model. Work Shouldn’t Be a Means To Earn Money. Often, money is the reason you take a job you are not passionate about. For example, a lot of graduates take jobs in sales because it pays well. With many growing tech companies, you can earn six figures as a sales person. This journey of working must not be long lived or else you be a slave for the rest of your life. Character 1 – will move his 20% gross income to Income Generating Assets so that one day it will replace the employment income so that he can enjoy his life and have the freedom to do what he/she really wants in life. That’s why they want to listen to Financial Advisers and other experts to get new ideas of investing their money.
CHARACTER 2 – THEY FOCUS ON WANT; RATHER THEN NEED; THEY CREATE LIABILITIES RATHER THEN ASSETS.
Certain people, it is said, live to work. It is shorthand for saying that their lives center on their work or careers and that achievement in their professions is a major source of satisfaction and meaning in their lives. Money may or may not be a major motivation for these people. They forget that all our timeline are not controlled by us – disaster may strike and all that you work for will come to end – employer may employ another one and replace you or get retrenched. Character 2 individuals willing to listen to you but “Selectively”. Selectively listening is better then not listening at all. They do put money to work but the issue is not enough to keep pace with inflation and rising cost of living. Once they are aware of the challenges they will start to listen to you and move to Character 1 segment. As a Financial Adviser I use “ABC” (Awareness Before Change) technique to achieve my goals; I make them aware of their current financial position and show them how they can get into different investment environment so that they can keep pace with the fast moving world – and get out of MAN@WORK to MONEY@WORK.
CHARACTER 3 – THEY IGNORE OR RUN AWAY FROM THEIR OWN CHALLENGES.
Work to Live, Don’t Live to Work. In this economy, you might feel pressured to sacrifice a work-life balance just to keep your job. A good work-life balance is one in which you work to live, not live to work. We all need to work to pay the mortgage or the rent, put food on the table, and provide for our families. AGREED?
They don’t listen at all; that doesn’t mean that they can’t change – they just need help; like motivation, a Movie or something that need to trigger their inner man to change or else they will bury their talents and when the master comes they will be known as they “WORST STEWARD” According to the bible they are called “WICKED”. As a Financial Adviser I allocate each day a certain time to write an email, message or drop a small note in facebook to encourage them to make change from man@work to money@work. If they refuse to change is okay with me and I will let my Good God to deal with him.
Are you discourage getting all the rejection; please don’t. The universe listens to you as long as you keep seeing people and continue doing the great work of helping people to realise or “ABC” – Awareness Before Change”. No one can change unless they are AWARE!!! YOU ARE JUST DOING THAT.
MEET THE RIGHT PEOPLE EACH DAY!!
